Narrative Portrait

For my narrative piece, I decided to create a self portrait that highlights one of my worst habits, overthinking. I used multiple tools to create the drawing; I used graphite pencils for the outline of my body, the charcoal pencil to outline the curly texture of my hair, and vine charcoal and an eraser for the background. By far, this is my favorite piece I’ve created and I am extremely proud of the outcome because it truly captures what it is like to be an overthinker. I decided to have my back turned around and facing the letters behind me because I sometimes cannot focus on what is right in front of me because I am focusing more on what’s going on in my head. I enjoyed creating art with a more deeper meaning because I like to see how my work may affect and relate to others. I am content that I decided to create the background with vine charcoal because the airy gray background captures how clouded my brain can be at times with irrelevant thoughts that prevents me from completely living in the moment. -4hrs 5/9/2021
